Many residents use DSL phone lines provided as an option from the phone company to permit high speed access the internet. When an alarm is triggered, your alarm system calls the central monitoring station and electronically transmits a lot of information to the station related to the nature and location of the alarm. This communication requires that you have a standard telephone grade line. In the case of a DSL home phone line, a special filter (typically not the filters supplied with DSL) will likely need to be professionally installed on the phone connection going to your alarm panel. If this filter is not installed, your alarm panel will not be able to communicate with our central station during an alert situation. If your convert from DSL to cable or buy a home from someone that used DSL (and you do not wish to use the DSL service), you will need to remove the DSL filters from the phone line going to your alarm panel. In this case, if the filter is not removed your alarm panel will not communicate with our central station during an alert situation.

If you are unsure as to whether or not a DSL filter is installed, you can test your system works properly by following our Alarm System Self Test Procedure. If you suspect your system is not working properly due to a DSL filter, you will need to schedule a service call from us.
